Woo Hoo! Homer Prevails!
Posted on July 27th, 2007 with 0 comments
Six of our profiled and highly motivated staff hit Wimbledon from the 5th to 8th July 2007 promoting the soon to be released Simpsons Movie on the 27th July. What a success; we could never have imagined the attention that the activity would receive from the media both here in the UK and over in the states.
The staff worked extremely hard to communicate the message to spectators arriving at Wimbledon and encouraged them to take one of the A4 cards in with them to hold up whilst watching the game. The double sided poster consisted of Homer Simpson on one side saying D’oh! and the other Woo Hoo!
The atmosphere was fantastic and was received with open arms from the general public. Sadly the security staff were not so happy and tried to confiscate the posters from spectators before entry. However this did not alter the fact that we still managed to get spectators inside with the posters and all attending Wimbledon over the few days were very aware of the film and our presence.
Although some articles that were written implied that the activity did not succeed in actual fact it was a huge success!

Homer Simpson has been banned from Wimbledon. Security guards from every gate helped capture him. What self-inflicted catastrophe had he caused? Ambush marketing, as a poster was distributed outside the gates to promote the new Simpsons movie. Can this be true? D’oh! said a club spokesman.

Homer ambush fails
A marketing stunt intended to publicise the forthcoming Simpsons movie foundered at Wimbledon yesterday when security guards were ordered to confiscate A4 cards featuring Homer Simpson that were handed to spectators at the gates. The stewards in SW19 are as familiar with ambush marketing tactics as they are with the latest security threats, and the operation never had a chance of success.

Wimbledon Bans Homer Simpson

Ben Maller had one of those great notes from his rumors page on Foxsports.com. The headline pretty much says it all. Taking it straight from The Suns Wimbledon diary:
HOMER SIMPSON has been barred from the All England Club. Fans outside were given posters advertising the new Simpsons movie but had them binned by security guards as it was ‘aggressive marketing’.
Come on lads, in the spirit of fun, you are shutting down the Simpsons? If the fans had come with sixers of Duffs for all would that have at least changed things? I would think so. First you had a chick get busted for wearing the wrong color underwear, now this. Those Wimbledon chaps need to lighten up a bit.

Homer Simpson Is Not Welcome At Wimbledon
If there is one thing the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club will not stand for it’s ‘aggressive marketing’. Red underpants are okay though.
From the Sun:
HOMER SIMPSON has been barred from the All England Club. Fans outside were given posters advertising the new Simpsons movie but had them binned by security guards as it was ‘aggressive marketing’.
And here I thought they might just turn their clubhouse into a Kwik-E-Mart.
Also, I looked up the word binned and this is all I found:
binned – Collaborative International Dictionary of English v.0.48 :
Bin \Bin\, v. t. [imp. & p. p. Binned; p. pr. & vb. n. Binning.]
To put into a bin; as, to bin wine.
[1913 Webster]
So I guess they put all the posters in a bin … or something … freakin’ Brits, speak English!
